Our Kidzone Staff

Maddie Bolick

Madeline (Maddie) is homeschooled, and will be starting her senior year of high school in the fall. She is 17 years old, and the second of four kids in her family.

“I love all kinds of music, and playing my mandolin outside. Reading is also one of my favorite things to do. My favorite book series is The Lord of the Rings, and they’re also some of my favorite movies. I have been working at Cheshire Fitness Club’s Kidzone since August of 2015. I love working here because I get to meet, and grow to love so many of the different personalities in the kids of the Cheshire family.

I love being in such an awesome environment with great people surrounding me. I strive to be a positive role model for each of the children that come in, during the 90 minutes I have the pleasure of spending with them. My prayer is that I keep shinning and smiling for those around me, so that they might smile as well.”

Melissa Briggs

Melissa has worked in kid zone for 2 years. “I have enjoyed hanging out with our small members. I have 2 boys of my own.

When I’m not going to school functions, games, or practices you can find me working out or sipping on some sort of caffeinated beverage. I’m also a student at Mars Hill University. Traveling and touching lives is my biggest passion and goal in life!”

Hilary Brown

“I have grown up in the best little town in the world, Black Mountain, all my life! Originally born in Salisbury, NC, my family moved here when I was 3 yrs old, and my parents took on well-respected teaching positions with local primary schools! I went on to graduate from Owen High School and then attended both, UNC Asheville and Montreat College. I concentrated in Art and Elementary Education. I’ve always loved working with people! YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly, Camp Hollymont for girls, and the Folk Art Center are some of my previous places of employment.

Thanks to my parents, I was raised in having a strong value for integrity, character, humility; as well as having a deep compassion for others! I am a lover of humor, and seeker of truth. Jesus has brought me through many trials in life! After growing closer to Him, I met my husband at Discovery Church, and we diligently go there to this day! We are youth leaders and are also involved in the music & worship team!

We’ve been married for over 5 yrs. now & have 3 BEAUTIFUL children, Paxton, Lucy and Evan! I am so thankful for the family I’ve found at the Cheshire Health & Fitness Club! My co-workers are my friends and I love all the children I get to meet! Life has many blessings… And to God, I strive to give all thanks and glory!”

Lynn Cauble

Lynn has four children that range in ages from 19 – 4 and has been married for 22 years.  She homeschool’s her youngest two.  “I love working with children.  I like to see the joy in their faces when they learn something new.

I enjoy finding new, fun, and exciting ways for them to learn and play.  I love to hear their laughter as they have fun with friends.  I look forward to getting to know your child/children as I have fun with them in kidzone!”

Ellen Gibson

Ellen is the daughter of Ruby and Marcus Begley. She is the youngest sister of Wendell, Michael and David Begley, all native to Black Mountain. Ellen resides here with her husband John, daughters Katelyn (25)
and Hilary (30) as well as her son-in-law Chris and two beautiful grand babies Lucy (3 ) and Evan Andrew (18 months). Ellen is a “people person” who loves interaction with children and adults. When not working at
Cheshire, Ellen home stages for the local real estate industry.

Free time hobbies include gourmet cooking, crafts, swimming, hiking, camping, and sailing. She has been employed by Cheshire since September of 2015 in Member Services and more recently, in Kids Zone. Previously employed by Buncombe County Schools in North Carolina for 30 years, she is now retired. Ellen is a graduate of Montreat College and Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in K-5 Early Childhood Education. Kids Zone is a perfect fit for her, as it is a most comfortable and familiar atmosphere. Ellen is very quick to share that all her co-workers are a blessing to work with, as the entire staff and management at Cheshire.

She moved to Black Mountain Jan. 2004 to be on the Asheville Hotshots (Elite Wildland firefighters) and never left the area. She fell in love with the town and her boss!

Kriste has worked in Kidzone for 5 years. “I love working for Cheshire because it has given me the opportunity to be with my children while bringing home a little spending money and it gives me a gym membership so I can have a little break from my children while I keep myself healthy (physically and mentally). I really love how us gals in KidZone are a little family that is a part of the larger gym family.”

Lori Marett

Lori is new to the Cheshire team with previous experience in then childcare field. She is the mother to three fabulous girls and is excited about welcoming the first grandchild, a grandson, to her family this summer. Lori is also a published author; most recently, having an article appear along with other successful authors, in the book called “Writing Right to Success.” But her passion is within the film and television community. Lori and Rodney directed a film festival (Ridgecrest, NC & Orlando, FL) for seven years and had her first contracted collaboration on a movie released to DVD in December of 2012 called “Meant to Be.” Currently, she is working with award-winning author, Jenny L. Cote, to bring Jenny’s children’s book series (Epic Order of the Seven) to the movie screen and television.

Breena Schermerhorn

I grew up in Tampa, Florida, but became a permanent WNC mountain girl when I moved here to attend Montreat College 17 years ago. I graduated with a Bible and Religion degree, focusing on Christian Education. Since graduation, I have worked with children and youth in many different capacities.

I have been privileged to work at Wears Valley Ranch (a residential home for children in crisis), in the children’s programs at the Grove Park Inn Sports Complex, as a Pre-K teacher at Montreat Morning School, and also as the Assistant Director of Youth at Montreat Presbyterian Church. Most currently, I spend my time at Christ Community Church, Montreat, volunteering with the youth department, and teaching the Mother’s Morning Out Program at Montreat Morning School.

I have been married to my husband, David (a life-long Black Mountain-ian) for almost 13 years and we have 4 children – Scout (7), Cass (5), Ryer (2) and Kya( 6 months). I enjoy being outside with my family and watching my kids learn about and explore the world around them. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know your children in Kidzone and to join this Cheshire Fitness Community.

Julie Wallace

Julie is married with 4 children, and she has worked in KidZone for 6 months.  “I love being around the upbeat energy the kids bring to the gym! I live in Black Mountain and enjoy raising my chickens, gardening, and spending time with my family. Over the last year I have reclaimed my health through running and exercise.

I have lost over 60 pounds and was able to quit taking blood pressure medication. During this health journey I found Cheshire as my place of choice to workout and have also found my way to getting to be a part of caring for the little ones while their family members also enjoy their time to exercise.”
